Translation in the Age of AI: Dharmamitra for Translator Workflows

“Translation in the Age of AI: Dharmamitra for Translator Workflows” was a global interactive workshop held online on July 11, 2026 as a collaboration between Dharmamitra and the Tsadra Foundation. It was designed to bridge translation and philology in the Buddhist textual world with digital humanities infrastructure, exploring how modern AI tools can be integrated to support, enhance, and optimize translation and philological research workflows. The workshop offered translators, scholars, and digital humanities researchers a deep dive into the MITRA framework, a practical look at the current capabilities of the system, real-world case studies, and an outlook on agentic translation workflows in the future.
The workshop ran from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM EDT (17:00 to 21:00 CET) as a live Zoom broadcast:
- Session 1: Introduction to MITRA and Ecosystem Vision (45 min), led by Sebastian Nehrdich. A comprehensive overview of the MITRA architecture, the datasets, and its current capabilities.
- Session 2: Collaborative Case Studies and Participant-Material Review (90 min), moderated by Sára Csáki-Bertók and Sebastian Nehrdich. An interactive, hands-on session discussing use-case examples and experiences with AI tools in an open conversation.
The workshop was primarily designed for translators, Buddhist Studies scholars, philologists, and digital humanities software developers.
